PANYNJ and Waze App Partner for Traffic Data Sharing

As part of its commitment to ensure safe, efficient travel in the region, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) announced that it is partnering with Waze, a free crowdsourced traffic and navigation app, for real-time sharing of traffic data. Traffic information will be available for the Authority’s bridges, bus terminals, tunnels, and the network of roadways that serve its seaports and airports. The partnership provides PANYNJ with more robust information to complement the sources it currently uses for traffic and travel data, including cameras, road sensors, and other devices, the partnership will enable PANYNJ to alert customers to changing traffic conditions sooner, identify trouble spots, develop better predictive modeling and manage traffic in real time. Through the collaboration, the Authority will also provide important information on lane closures, traffic accidents, and other events to Waze user, reported to be the world’s largest community of drivers.
